Help with displaying maps

Hi, I just want to say this project is amazing. I am having issues with getting the maps to display outside of CarPlay. I have my phone connected, and do get turn by turn navigation metadata but cannot get maps to display here as it says unsupported firmware. I have checked the firmware and it is the latest and I am running LIVI on my Mac. I have attached some screenshots below. Thank you.

Hey @D7YAB, thanks for the kind words.

You will need to enable Dev Tools, connect to the dongle’s Wi-Fi, go to the dongle’s web interface (most likely 192.168.43.1), and enable AdvancedFeatures. After that, perform a cold reboot of the dongle and it should work.

Instrument cluster video is not supported by all map apps. Apple Maps and Waze support this feature, but Google Maps for example does not.

Thank you so much for that, it is up and running now. I was wondering if we could set custom resolution for the secondary map video stream different to the main video stream? or are they both fixed at same size?

Not yet. I wasn’t sure how useful that option would be since the map stream is currently rendered in the same window as the main video stream.

I’ve just added support for a custom resolution for the secondary map stream in the dev build.
We may also add an option later to launch it in a second window for multi-screen setups.

Thanks again, my intention with this is to have CarPlay running on headhunit and map stream on my aftermarket instrument cluster which has HDMI input support.

I have seen this custom firmware at this repo: https://github.com/lvalen91/CPC200-CCPA-Firmware-Dump/tree/main/custom_firmware/2025.10.15.1127, it supports features like safe display area, viewable area boundaries, screen info handler etc. Do you think we would see further support for instrument cluster display support in future?

A safe area within CarPlay is possible, I tested that successfully. However, it isn’t very helpful (IMO), since we would need this feature for the instrument cluster stream instead.

I’ve also seen hints of such functionality for the instrument cluster stream in the binaries, but I haven’t had any success enabling it yet. To be honest, I haven’t spent much time on it since it’s not a high priority at the moment. I may take a second look at it later.

In the meantime, feel free to open a feature request so we can at least add it to the backlog.

Safe Area works on the main stream, but I can’t get it to work on the second stream. Not sure if this just isn’t fully implemented in the dongle fw.

I too have managed to implement the nav stream based off of your repo, but again I couldn't modify the safe area, view area on nav stream is fine but the safe area values just prevent CarPlay from connecting. I think you are right in that the dongle may not have proper support.
