I need your assistance with upgrading our current Snipe-IT setup. We are currently using version v4.6.7 (build 3944 - master) and would like to upgrade to the latest version v8.4.

Could you please guide us on the recommended upgrade process? It would be helpful if you could share the steps, best practices, and any precautions we should take during the upgrade, especially regarding data migration and compatibility.

To answer your question, I initially installed Snipe-IT manually.

I will carefully review the system requirements and ensure I have a full backup of my database and .env file before proceeding with the upgrade steps for a manual installation.

It definitely was, thank you.

Generally speaking, the upgrade should go pretty easily. If you have a Snipe-IT generated backup, you'll likely have better luck (the restore tool that was introduced in v6-ish makes a lot of this very easy). That said, over 13 years, we've seen pretty much everything you can imagine, so if you run into a problem, I'm certain it's nothing we can't help with. We've had folks upgrade from v2 to v8, so it definitely can be done. Be vigilant with your backup, confirm your minimum system requirements, and try to switch to a git install if you can. Your life will be a lot easier if you can pull that off. If you can turn it into a git install,. upgrading becomes as simple as running php upgrade.php once you're in the Snipe-IT v7 range, so it gets pretty easy once you're properly sorted.
