Assign parameters to variables in a SO report

I want to assign Volume and Weight part parameters to variables to calculate row and Sales Order totals. But when I try to use the parameter tag like this:

but I get an error ""Invalid block tag on line 47: 'parameter' "

The example in the documentation looks like this:

{% parameter part "length" as length %}

Part: {{ part.name }}<br>
Length: {{ length.data }} [{{ length.units }}]

I fail to figure out what is the different that is causing the error.

As reference, this is the full template. Note that the way I use the Weight parameter works, so I obiously do someting wrong when I try to use the parameter tag...

Problem solved... I just realized that the installation where I need this report has not been upgraded since last summer and thus the parmeter tag is not available, only the old part_parameter tag....
