Another year has passed, and mise continues to evolve! This post summarizes what's been accomplished since the 2025 announcement in January 2025.
2025 By The Numbers
Top contributors: @jdx (844), @risu729 (244), @roele (83), @scop (41), @TyceHerrman (23), @pierremercier (16), @tony-sol (14), @hverlin (14), and many more!
Major Features
Monorepo Task Support
One of the most requested features landed in October 2025—comprehensive monorepo support for tasks. You can now:
:tasksyntax (e.g.,mise run :packages/api:build)...for running tasks across multiple packages[monorepo].config_rootsfor explicit workspace discoveryThis brings mise's task runner closer to feature parity with tools like Turborepo and Nx while maintaining mise's simplicity.
New Backends
Several new backends expanded mise's reach:
version_exprfor complex version parsingSecurity Enhancements
Supply chain security received significant attention:
Ruby Precompiled Binaries
Ruby installations got dramatically faster with precompiled binary support. Instead of compiling from source (which can take 10+ minutes), mise now downloads precompiled binaries for supported platforms, completing in seconds. Binaries include GitHub attestation verification for supply chain security.
Enhanced Lockfiles
The lockfile system received major improvements:
--lockedflag: Strict mode that fails if lockfile is missing or outdatedShell Aliases
The new
[shell_alias]configuration allows defining cross-shell aliases that work in bash, zsh, and fish:Task System Improvements
Tasks received numerous enhancements:
mise prepare: New command to prepare/download dependencies without installingmise task validate: Validate task configurations--skip-depsflag: Run tasks without their dependenciesmise <task>Configuration Improvements
.miserc.toml: New file for early initialization settings (loaded before other configs)[env._.required]UI/UX Improvements
color_theme = "base16"setting for light terminal backgroundsmise upgradenow displays a summary of upgraded toolsmise search: New command to search for tools in the registryPlatform Support
snap install miseRegistry Growth
The registry grew to nearly 950 tools, with over 120 new tools added throughout the year. Notable changes:
ubi:backend is deprecated in favor of the more capablegithub:backendSister Projects
Two new projects launched in 2025 that complement mise:
fnox
A unified secret management tool that lets developers store and manage sensitive data either encrypted in git repositories or remotely in cloud providers. It supports multiple encryption methods (age, AWS KMS, Azure KMS, GCP KMS) and cloud services (AWS Secrets Manager, 1Password, Bitwarden, HashiCorp Vault, and others). fnox integrates seamlessly with mise's environment variable system—use
mise setwith fnox to manage secrets across development, staging, and production environments.hk
A high-performance git hook manager and project linting tool. hk features tighter linter integration and uses read/write file locks to maximize concurrent operations while preventing race conditions. It's designed as a faster, more integrated alternative to tools like pre-commit and lefthook. mise can generate hk configurations with
mise generate git-pre-commit.Thank You
Thank you to everyone who contributed code, documentation, bug reports, and feedback throughout 2025. The mise community continues to grow and improve the tool for developers everywhere.
