Location Verification Issue – Campus is Nearby but Still Failing Validation

I hope this message finds you well. I am currently experiencing a location-related issue while attempting to verify my eligibility for the GitHub Student Developer Pack.
Although my campus is located only about 1 kilometer away from my current location, the verification process appears to be failing due to a location mismatch. I would like to clarify that all the information I have provided is accurate and verifiable, including my educational institution, student status, and supporting documents.
I suspect the issue might be caused by a technical glitch or a limitation in GitHub’s location detection system, as this discrepancy does not reflect any error from my side.
I kindly request that you review this case manually or guide me on how to resolve this issue so that I can proceed with the application. I’m happy to provide any additional documents or clarification needed to complete the verification process.

I totally get your frustration - the location verification can be really picky. Unfortunately, you do need to be physically inside the campus boundaries for it to work properly. Even being 1km away can cause it to fail.

Here's what usually helps:

1. Try from a campus computer lab or library - these locations almost always work
2. Enable precise location in your browser permissions
3. Turn off VPNs/proxies if you're using any

If you absolutely can't get on campus, you'll need to contact GitHub Support directly at support.github.com/contact and explain your situation. They can sometimes verify manually if you send:

• A screenshot of your location (from maps)
• Proof of your campus address
• Your student ID

Hang in there! The location check is strict, but once you're past it, you're golden.

Hey @Zaima118, I totally feel you - it's super frustrating when school rules and tech requirements clash like this. The 1km thing isn't about distance being too far, but about GitHub's system needing to detect you're physically on campus grounds. It's a security thing they're pretty strict about, even if it doesn't make perfect sense in every situation. Maybe try borrowing a friend's laptop to connect from campus WiFi during breaks? Or if that's not possible, your best bet is explaining the situation to GitHub support with some proof of enrollment - sometimes they can make exceptions. Hang in there, I know it's annoying when systems don't account for real student life!

We can see you have opened up a support ticket and we are seeing a higher volume of student developer pack inquiries coming through. We are working our way through addressing these as fast as possible. I can share that your request has been passed onto the GitHub Education team and will be processed as soon as possible, but I am afraid I do not have a timeline to share for when you can expect this to happen.

Usually with these types of tickets we may include an investigation as fraudulent activity has been identified on either the account or the associated school's. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we do our due diligence ensuring that bad actors impersonating students don't jeopardise our ability to provide academic benefits of value.
