Request to Transfer Education Benefits from Old Account

Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue while trying to apply for the GitHub Student Developer Pack on my new account. My academic email was used previously on another account to obtain education benefits. Even though I’ve removed the email from that account, it’s still associated with it, and I’m unable to apply for the benefits on my current account.

I would like guidance on how to resolve this issue or how I can transfer/revoke the benefits from the old account to use them on my new one. I can provide proof of student status if needed.

Any help or advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated!

If your academic email was previously used on another GitHub account, even after removing it, it may still be linked in their system. The best way to resolve this is to contact GitHub Education Support directly here:
👉 https://support.github.com/contact/education

Explain your situation and provide proof of your student status. They can help unlink the email from the old account or transfer the benefits to your new one.

Hi @varsha346,

Unfortunately, student benefits can't be transferred from one account to another.

It’s not possible to transfer Global Campus benefits over from one GitHub account to another.

However, you are able to merge your accounts, but the account with the benefits would be the main account. You can add your non-academic email from the previous account to the account containing the academic email. If you desire you can then rename this account once merged. For more details check out out the merging of your personal accounts documentation.

I recommend you contact support by opening a ticket here, select "Other" and ask them to revoke the student benefits linked to the old account, so you'll be able to apply with the current one.
