Discord Server?

I'd love to see a Discord server set up for the project. It makes it much easier to engage in discussion with the community and several of the other projects out there don't have a good discussion group, which makes all the community experience and knowledge unavailable.

Would you be willing to start this, @polvinc?

Even though I'm present on various discord groups, at the moment I don't feel like managing a discord community for HEMY. I don't think I have enough free time at the moment to do that.
But it's an idea I could certainly put in place if the project grows.

Totally understand. I don't think it would take much management though, and would just allow a more ongoing discussion to be had by builders and interested parties.

I'd be more than happy to set up and manage a Discord Server, either a standalone server dedicated to HEMY or I could add extra channels to my current server, a word to the wise on starting a discord server though, right now discussions are all in one place, mostly, starting more places of discussion risks fragmenting the "Community" a little. Either way thoughts would be welcome.

You're not the first to ask for a discord server (there have already been 4 or 5 requests!). In fact, I'm not against it. But there are several reasons why I think the creation of a discord server could be delayed:

• The discussion space on the github doesn't seem too badly suited to exchanges, and they're public and linked to the project.
• The OnStep project works in a similar way, and it's been running well for quite a few years.
• My mother tongue is French, so even if I get by in English, it's going to be a tough start haha! I use AI to write faster in English.
• I have to admit that I'm a bit afraid of administering a discord server, due to a lack of time.
  Now, as there are more and more requests, perhaps we could consider creating one? I suppose a dedicated server would be more suitable. On that basis, what are the advantages and disadvantages of a discord server?

I'll just address the last point, Discord servers are hosted on discord, no need for dedicated servers of any kind, you literally create one from the discord app, i guess you could look at it more like your own channel on discords server. From the discord app, at the very bottom left you'll see a + icon, you just click that and after a few steps you have your own server :)

I can do it for you if you want me to but i do not want to do something that is against your wishes, i guess the main advantage of discord is that it is real time, and people are available for voice / video chat too, but as i said the negative would be it slightly fractures the community, having a small community spread all over the place be a negative.
