Is snow volume conserved during sea ice advection?

The global sum of dvsdtd is non-zero

I checked in CM2 output and latest tests (sisndmassdyn variable), and the global/hemisphere are all non-zero.

My thinking ice is that hemispherical snow volume should be conserved during sea ice dynamics (and only change during thermodynamics)? Is that correct @ofa001 ?

HI @anton-seaice You would sort of assume so, the plots you showed earlier and maximum values in the Greenland Sea etc along the ice edge where the snow was being advected with the thicker ice, and would presumably melt out. This ploy suggests there is some snow retained year round in the Arctic or Antarctic on thick ice on stuck points and never melting out. The stuck thick ice point at the edge of the Ross sea is candidate.
