Welcome to the SSV Restaking Solution, a project developed for ETHOnline 2024 that combines the power of SSV Network with EigenLayer to offer a robust, secure, and efficient solution for Ethereum staking. Our solution enables users to seamlessly register Ethereum validators on SSV, split and distribute them across multiple non-trusting nodes, and unlock additional staking rewards by restaking their native ETH on EigenLayer.
The project also features a Bulk Validator Registration Tool, making it easier for users to onboard multiple validators in one go, further improving the scalability and accessibility of Ethereum staking for individuals and institutions alike.
SSV Validator Management: Seamless registration and management of Ethereum validators through SSV Network’s decentralized infrastructure. Bulk Validator Registration: A user-friendly tool to onboard multiple validators at once, simplifying the process for large-scale staking operations. EigenLayer Restaking: Integration with EigenLayer to allow users to restake their native ETH and earn additional rewards beyond traditional staking. Secure, Trust-Minimized Architecture: Leveraging SSV’s decentralized validator technology, users can distribute their validator keys across multiple non-trusting operators, ensuring high security and fault tolerance.
Step 1: Create an EigenPod Users begin by creating an EigenPod, which acts as a smart contract that manages the process of restaking ETH on EigenLayer. The EigenPod will be responsible for receiving rewards and handling interactions with the validator.
Step 2: Set Validator Withdrawal Address After creating the EigenPod, the user sets the validator's withdrawal address to the EigenPod smart contract. This ensures that the staking rewards flow directly into the EigenPod for further restaking on EigenLayer.
Step 3: Register Validator on SSV Network Once the withdrawal address is set, users can register their validator on the SSV Network. The SSV Network splits the validator key into multiple KeyShares, which are then distributed across a decentralized network of non-trusting operators. This enhances the security and redundancy of the validator, ensuring consistent performance even if some operators experience downtime.
Step 4: Restake on EigenLayer With the validator registered on SSV, users can now restake their ETH on EigenLayer, unlocking additional earning potential beyond traditional staking rewards. The EigenLayer restaking mechanism allows for increased yields while maintaining the security of the Ethereum network.
Step 5: Bulk Validator Registration (Optional) For users managing multiple validators, the Bulk Validator Registration Tool enables onboarding of a large number of validators with a single transaction. This tool eliminates the need for multiple contract calls, making the process more accessible for institutional users and those with larger staking operations.
The SSV Network provides a fully decentralized, open-source infrastructure for splitting and distributing Ethereum validator keys across multiple operators. By utilizing SSV’s Distributed Validator Technology (DVT), validators can be distributed across non-trusting nodes, enhancing both the security and fault tolerance of the Ethereum network.
Key benefits of SSV integration:
Trust-Minimized Validator Management: Validators are distributed across independent operators, reducing the risk of any single operator compromising the validator. High Availability: With validators split into multiple shares and run across decentralized nodes, the infrastructure ensures resilience, even during operator downtimes. Seamless Integration: Our project integrates SSV’s capabilities for validator key distribution and management, aligning with its vision of decentralizing and securing Ethereum staking infrastructure. Bulk Validator Registration Tool Our solution features a Bulk Validator Registration Tool that simplifies the process of onboarding multiple validators. This tool allows users to:
Register multiple validators with one transaction, reducing time and complexity. Use a user-friendly interface to manage large-scale validator onboarding without the need for technical scripts or multiple contract calls. By offering this feature, we significantly improve the scalability of Ethereum staking, making it accessible to users who wish to manage multiple validators efficiently.
SSV is an ideal choice for decentralized validator management because it provides:
Decentralized Validator Operations: Validators are distributed across multiple non-trusting operators, ensuring that no single entity controls the validator. Security and Redundancy: The validator key is split into shares and distributed, making the infrastructure resistant to failures and attacks. High Performance: SSV ensures that validators continue running smoothly, even if some operators face issues, providing high uptime and reliability. Perfect for Restaking: SSV allows restaking applications to plug into its infrastructure, making it easy for projects to tap into decentralized, trust-minimized validator management.
Create EigenPod: Initialize an EigenPod smart contract to manage restaking. **Set Withdrawal Address:**Link the validator’s withdrawal address to the EigenPod. Register Validator on SSV: Split the validator into KeyShares and distribute them across non-trusting nodes. Restake ETH on EigenLayer: Restake the staked ETH via EigenLayer for additional rewards. Bulk Registration(Optional): For large-scale validator management, use the Bulk Validator Registration Tool.
Prizes and Bounty Consideration
Best Use of SSV for Restaking ($4,000) Our project is applying for the Best Use of SSV for Restaking prize, as we enable users to restake their ETH on EigenLayer, securing the Ethereum network and maximizing staking rewards through SSV’s trust-minimized validator management infrastructure.
Best Enhancement to SSV Tooling ($3,000) Our project also includes a Bulk Validator Registration Tool, an enhancement that streamlines the process of registering validators. This addresses a current gap in SSV’s onboarding system by providing a user-friendly way to register multiple validators, reducing friction for users with larger staking operations.
