Tips on performance #2

This is not a bug report. I'm just trying to find some advice on improving the performance on Acestream on my Ubuntu box.
I often have many connections (helping > 40) and a download speed that looks solid (> 330 KB/s) yet the video will go for a while and then just pause for a long time (dozens of seconds).
My upload bandwidth is completely maxed out (if I try to surf the web the requests go out very slowly). Setting "Upload Limit" doesn't seem to change anything.
Does anyone have any advice on how to smooth things out?
