Revise the Pokégear UI

I had made these mockups a few years ago, but at the time there were no plans to change how the Pokegear looked like. Given the issues recently opened, I decided to open this one to suggest this once again.

Those are a bit old and have some tiling issues, which I would fix if this would be brought into Polished Crystal. There were some unique designs from the leaks that could be devamped, too.

The Town Map and Phone cards have little room for any UI complexity beyond a one-tile border, but the Clock and Radio cards could adapt some improvement like this. I particularly like how you got rid of the "Press any button to exit" textbox. I don't think it needs to be themable, but just one theme could work, if it somewhat resembles a digital watch/PDA/phone helper utility. (I'd prefer to leave out the Silph logo though, or at least make it subtler.)

I made this mockup for a more PDA-like feel... What do you think? This would require some changes to the Pokégear's logic though...
Instead of controlling it by simply pressing Left or Right, you'd need to choose an app with the directional buttons, then click A to select said app (similarly to how it functions in SW97). This would free up two more rows for the other apps.

Also, I think the map would need to use the vwf for map names... Another idea I had was to have it be a monochrome display at first, which would reflect on the map as well, but you'd be able to upgrade it to a color display at some point, which would then allow the map to be shown in full color.

As for the monochrome display, perhaps the colors could swap around by pressing Select, and light up when pressing Start (both features are a thing in the Pokétch).

I can make some mockups for the other apps as well, if you like the idea.

Thank you for iterating on this! I wouldn't want to change the controls though; having them top-left keeps things consistent even for the Town Map page, and it's convenient needing just one button press to switch pages.

I kind of like the PD/Pokétch style, but it's also pretty basic-looking. Which may not be a bad thing! The Pokégear doesn't really need a super-fancy UI, its focus is on the content, and only the Clock and Radio pages even have much room for changing the UI.
