Free crop to specified pixels? Locks to 1:1

Have a number of images I resize to 900px tall then crop (centered) to 845px wide. Resize by limit works for the first step but I see no way in the crop tool to crop to a specific pixel size. I can select a ratio mask, Free just let's me graphically drag bounds, and Custom just let's me select a ratio. Anytime I try to set a ratio like 0.94:1 to get close, though, it just crops to 1:1.

I'm sure I'm missing some key option or step?

Also, perhaps worth making a separate issue: I mistakenly used 845:900 as a ratio once. It then stalled out and crashed trying to make a giant image I think. every time I selected free Crop after that, it retained some giant bounding box I couldn't adjust to any image size. I had to uninstall and reinstall the app for that to return to normal.

Crop filter as in picking one image of desired size from the crop ratio/shape selector? Results in the same 1:1 lock

Ok first vid attempting to use custom ratio to get a rectangular crop after resizing by limits to 700px tall. After resize use crop, custom ratio, set 1.1 x 1. Expect something like 770 x 700. Get 700x636. Try again/this time with ratio 0.95 x 1. Expect something like 665x700. Get 700x700.

But it seems that values less than 1 in the first field doesn't affect the ratio if the second value is 1, i will look

Right but 1.1x 1.0 cropping both dimensions seems a bit unpredictable since 770x700 would be the same ratio but is the largest size that still fits within bounds of the source image, similar to what would be expected from a simple square crop

Trying to manually crop one then use that as a crop mask for others is giving odd results too. Will try to recreate a simple set of that as well.

Maybe I'm just not using the tool right? Is there supposed to be a way of just directly specifying crop dimension and I'm missing it?

No, there is no such way, but you can use crop resize mode which allows that and aspect ratio too

Here's an attempt with using another pic as crop mask. I crop first image manually to about 850x720. Then I try another full size image using free crop with an image mask, and select the first cropped image. It looked in the tool like it just did some arbitrary small crop from all four edges and it cropped the image to 1440x648. I tried again with it on Custom ratio and it looked like it just kept the 1x1, but then checking the saved file it wasn't cropped at all.
