Description:
I have a project in Claude with a significant amount of conversation history. Recently, I renamed the root folder of this project on my local machine. After the rename, all my previous conversations in the Claude Project seemed to "disappear." Interestingly, when I changed the folder name back to the original one, all conversations returned immediately.
My Goal:
I need to rename my local folder for better organization, but I don't want to lose the chat history associated with it.
My Questions:
Why are the conversations strictly tied to the specific folder name or local path?
Is there a configuration file (e.g., in the .claude folder or system AppData) that I can manually edit to map the project to the new folder name?
What is the recommended workflow for renaming a linked project directory without breaking the session link?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
