Hardworking, intelligent and ambitious - these are the words that are often associated with me when asked by my peers about who I am. Hi, my name is Alpa Sahai, and I am a Software Engineering (Honours) student at Griffith University, passionate about innovation, problem-solving and using technology to make a meaningful impact.

As Vice President of Women in Engineering (WiE) at Griffith's Nathan campus, I help to lead and organise large-scale events such as the annual Engineering Gala and industry networking nights, connecting students with industry professionals and supporting the growth of a stronger engineering community.

As a recipient of the ATSE Elevate: Boosting Women in STEM Scholarship, I am so fortunate to be able to gain access to opportunities that help to engage inspiring women leaders in the STEM field, thus allowing me to flourish as a future STEM professional. My interests relating to my degree lie in software development and computer systems, with a focus on how I can apply my learning and skills to address global challenges. I am especially interested in fields such as aviation technology, quantum computing and sustainability-focused innovation, where I can contribute to building efficient and effective solutions.

Outside of my studies, I enjoy movement through cultural dance, yoga and Muay Thai Kickboxing. As a young woman from Fiji, I find pleasure in delving deeper into my culture and exploring other cultures. Through these experiences, I have gained resilience, adaptability and a sense of open-mindedness that allows me to thrive in collaborative environments. I am passionate about supporting diversity in STEM, growing as a leader, and building a brighter future where technology benefits our society and our surroundings.
