Missing ASH 2025 Abstracts

Thank you for creating this valuable tool. I noticed that you have ~6,400 abstracts but the ASH website says there are 8,200 accepted abstracts.

Do you know why you weren't able to get all of them?

Great question @bharris12 -- and I unfortunately don't have a good answer as to why. When you go to their abstracts page:

and load the "Abstracts" tab:

That is the total # of abstracts you get. I actually double-checked this and it looks like there are now 5 more abstracts that are all late-breaking (so no content to them).

Not sure where the rest of the "accepted" abstracts are but they are definitely not getting served through their website -- at least for now. Sometimes, people ask to put an embargo so I will give this another try as we near the conference. If you know of an abstract that is not on my list, that can help me troubleshoot.

Interesting, did you write a web scraper to pull the all the abstracts?

I see on their website and in your screenshot that the abstracts have 2 identifiers (both called abstract id) one appears to be somewhat random (I'm guessing it is the number in order of submission) and the other one appears to be sequential starting from 1.

An embargo could explain some of the missing abstracts but I find it hard to believe that it would be 2,000

So you definitely got the first 6,400 abstracts. Embargo is a good explanation, but I kinda doubt ~1/4 of the abstracts are under embargo, but maybe I am being naive

I am taking a look at my notes and I saw that I actually (pretty aggressively) tried to go beyond those ID ranges.

For example, if you take a look the abstract PDF URLs, it looks something like this:

What I did was to test the range between 280000 and 320000 -- and even that brought any new abstracts. Their ~8K mention might be off. I won't be surprised if that actually corresponds to the number of abstracts submitted.

I decided to just contact ASH and got a definitive answer.

Approximately 20% of the total submissions will only appear within the Online Publication, The Blood Journal and will become part of the abstract archive at a later date.

I'm guessing the later date would be either the start or end of ASH?
