reference guide for implementing a bigdata server

Hello there, I'm not sure it's the best place to ask this, but I can not find any documentation about how to implement a bigdata server.

My goal is to allow the user to browse data with imageJ interface, with some of the data being computed or modified on-the-fly. When I saw the bigdataviewer, I thought I could implement the same interface. Do you think it's a good approach?
