saves a lot of converting from/to uint/int
since we have now wordMask = wordSize -1 we should use it, makes the code simpler to read

This patchset consists only of additional comments and restructuring of the code to make it more understandable for the reader.
Additionally, the constants are now untyped which saves a lot of back and forth conversions.
