I'm Gianfranco Di Pietro 👋

PhD Candidate | Geospatial Data Scientist | Environmental Engineer

I specialize in the evaluation and mitigation of territorial risks using Machine Learning and Remote Sensing. My work focuses on bridging the gap between hydro-climatic sciences and advanced data analysis.

Welcome in my personal github profile!

🔭 I’m currently working on:

  • HECO (Here Comes the Oil): Leading the development for oil spill monitoring tools using Lagrangian dispersion models and Copernicus Marine Services (CMEMS) APIs.
  • QGIS riverbanks tools: Developing Python algorithms for hydro-morphological river analysis, currently adopted by the Basin Authority of the Hydrographic District of Sicily.
  • Coastal Morphodynamics with ML: Reconstructing spatiotemporal patterns of coastal erosion using observational data and machine learning.
  • Multiscale Geostructural System - MGSTools: Leading te development a collection of Python tools for representing geological data on the web

🛠️ Technical Stack

  • Languages: Python (Advanced), SQL, Javascript.
  • Geospatial: PyQGIS, QGIS Graphical Modeler, geopandas, xarray, cartopy.
  • Data Science: scikit-learn, pandas, Jupyter Notebooks.
  • Domain: Oceanographic Modelling, River Hydraulics, Environmental Risk Assessment.
