If you run git stash; git pull; composer install --no-dev and then try the upgrader again, what do you see?

  which I answered with "n" as I assume the modification is legit?

As I had a snapshot of the system, I could now run a system update and run the git stash;git pull; composer commands fresh again, same error output:

This looks like a bug in composer with PHP 8.4. composer/composer#12214

Try running composer self-update and try the upgrade again.

This worked (mostly), but I had to discard changes to nesbot/carbon and laravel/framework for it to finish completely. Not sure what that has done...

I also got this at Stage 9, no idea if it's related or not.
