I would like to be able to control hydrogen's idea of a clock tick with an external signal of some sort

I am using h2player headless to play hydrogen drum patterns as part of a larger project.

It would be very useful if I could run hydrogen off of the same clock I use for other parts of the same project.

Supporting MIDI Clock would be a nice addition. (Especially since the only external tempo controller supported so far - JACK Timebase - has some conceptional incompatibilities)

I would suggest to allow only for a single external tempo control at a time. This way we do not have to adopt the audio engine and can keep things more simple. To represent this design decision, the "J. MASTER" button could be replaced by a more complex widget. Something like a button + dropdown arrow button combination that allows the user to choose between the different external sources.

As noted in #1910 Hydrogen should also be able to send MIDI clock messages.
