some characters are wrongly translated at the SAVE into bibtex step

after a correct parsing including a "&" as a character (eg in "Trends in Ecology & Evolution"), when I save the ref into BibTex, the "&" is not escaped and transformed into "&". So it cannot not be correctly ingested by LaTeX.

It's probably the same problem for other special LateX characters

Yes, the BibTeX produced is intended for use with UTF-8 aware tools like biblatex.

I think that in Tex "&" without "/" is an alignment tab character. It should be escaped to be understand by Tex as a "&", even in UTF-8. Am I wrong?

Yes, on second thought, & is in ASCII anyway so it's not really an UTF-8 related thing -- I wrongly assumed that's what it was about. I'll move this to bibtex-ruby because it would need to be addressed there.
