Person pouting emoji isn't pouting, but newer version exists?

Hey!
I'm a Discord user. I recently tried to use :person_pouting: (or :person_with_pouting_face:, which looks like this 🙎.
On discord, it looks like this:

however, according to emojipedia, there's a newer version (from 15.0.3?) looking like this:

This look much closer to what other companies have been doing (and looks a lot more like a person pouting, to me). Here's a collage I found:

What's happening? Why does the file 1F64E.svg not look like the next one? Can this be changed into this one?

Discord's usually behind on Twemoji updates, like, it's missing 🫩 still, but from what I can see, the last release of Twemoji here still uses the one Discord does, so I'm not sure where Emojipedia are getting theirs from, even open source competitor Stoat (formerly Revolt) has the classic one (if selected)

Just realized that X/Twitter does use this new version? That's even weirder

Oh yeah, I stupidly checked their ~3 year inactive github, guess they just put development behind closed doors without telling anyone.

It seems trivial to get individual vectors from X, licensing aside, but even building a font wouldn't put it into Discord because the old one's still there.

Exporting to PNG and adding as a custom emoji with Nitro would at least let you set it to :person_pouting_x: or something to that effect, there's no Vencord plugins that replace the default emoji that I see, and that's not endorsed by Discord anyway.

well, i had hoped this could be added to this repo for everyone to get, but if's its made by X... I'll close this.

Reopening as we do plan to update this (we can't use the X one, but we'll make another that's more in line with other vendors nowadays). We missed the v17 release for it, but we'll put it into a patch release when we get it done. Thank you for pointing this out!

It’s noteworthy that there are three pouting emojis which despite the common attribute have never been really well aligned in most implementations.

• 😡 Pouting Face

• 😾 Pouting Cat Face
