Messages sent from other clients don't appear in 1:1 chats

Description

Messages sent from another Signal client (e.g. your phone) appear correctly in group chats but are silently dropped in 1:1 conversations. The TUI never receives the sync notification for these messages.

Root cause

This is an upstream signal-cli bug. signal-cli throws an InvalidMessageStructureException when processing sync messages for 1:1 conversations sent from a secondary device.

Workaround

None currently. Waiting on the upstream fix.

Status

Blocked on upstream. Will be resolved once signal-cli fixes the sync message handling.

Upstream fix has been merged. signal-cli PR AsamK/signal-cli#1944 added defensive null-safety for ServiceId fields in MessageEnvelope, which resolves the InvalidMessageStructureException that was silently dropping 1:1 sync messages.

The fix is included in the signal-cli 0.14.0 milestone. Users should update signal-cli to 0.14.0+ to resolve this.

No changes needed on the signal-tui side — our sync message handling in signal/client.rs already processes these correctly once signal-cli delivers them.
