Could not display "computer:///".
Nemo cannot handle "computer" locations.

Steps to reproduce

Whenever I try to open Computer icon either from the desktop or from the inside the nemo this error happens.
This wasn't the case a few days back..........looks like some update caused this bug. All the colors I assigned to the folders also go away. Rebooting the system fixed it sometimes. Restarting the Cinnamon itself does nothing to fix it.

Expected behavior

It always opens the Computer and displays all the disks and home folders.

Seems to sort of work in nemo:-

Note that these are disks (of which I have 3); the last one called filesystem appears to be multiple disks/filesystems.
Strangely, the 3rd one is shown as 'timeshift'

I don't know why you would want computer:/// to behave as if it was a single file system, when it isn't one.

I tried entering computer:/// in the address bar in Nemo, and I was unable to reproduce the issue here with Nemo 6.0.0. @Voodoohawk Does this issue still manifest on your system with Nemo 6.0.0?

Aside, this view seems very sparse in that it doesn't show storage information like used and free storage, any mount point information, file system information, or really anything that might be useful in the columns. Those would be separate issues though.

I have this problem intermittently.

It works for a few hours to few days. then it starts giving that error and ALSO giving the same error if I try to open network:/// from desktop.

I then reboot my system and both network and computer open just fine.
a few hours to days later it starts giving these error again and the cycle repeats.

It is worth noting that only the computer and network shortcuts on the desktop do not work.
home, manual shortcuts, and all 8 of my mounted filesystems work. (2 local drives formatted in NTFS and 6 network drives accessible via cifs)

I think I figured out why I see it happen less often in Mint 22.

In mint 21, once it happened, the issue will persist until the machine was rebooted.
In mint 22, it recovers by itself after some time without a reboot. Just a few hours after seeing it and it went away on its own.

Since it takes a couple of days of uptime to happen and recovers in a few hours or less. It is harder to catch during the faulted state.

My guess is that some process or another is recognized as being frozen and is automatically killed and restarted by by the OS.

It sounds like that could be what's happening, since it seems unlikely that it would just sporadically start failing without any incompatibilities being introduced at runtime.

I will try to catch it and use them next time the issue shows itself.

Next time I see it, I will try to remember to check software update history to see if there were any recent updates.

This is happening quite frequently lately. when it happens, my trash stops working too.
If I select a file or folder and hit [delete] on keyboard nothing happens. but if I click [shift]+[delete] it asks me if I am sure I Want to permanently delete it without going through trash first.
If I close all open windows and then open nemo again it fixes things. and sometimes it fixes over time.

I checked system reports and it does not show anything in crash reports. It thinks everything is fine.
Is there a way to produce some sort of OS snapshot or force nemo to output a debug log when this happens for the sake of posting here?

Thanks for the suggestion. A couple of minutes ago I found myself unable to delete files with the [del] key on the keyboard in nemo.
I went to desktop and double clicked computer and got error

Could not display "computer:///".
Nemo cannot handle "computer" locations.

I ran dolphin. dolphin was able to delete stuff into the trash just fine. while nemo which was open to the side still could not delete anything

after deleting some items with dolphin, and verifying that nemo still can't delete anything, I double clicked trash on desktop and got this error:

after closing all open nemo windows the issue resolved.
double clicking trash opened trash folder without an error and actually showed me all the items I have deleted using dolphin.

system reports thinks nothing bad happened. so there is nothing to submit.
