I'm frustrated when I don't know how or in which course I can acquire a skill listed as required in a job description.
I'm also frustrated when I take a kernel or mandatory course without knowing which career paths it may unlock for me or which job I will be qualified for.
Describe the solution you'd like
In addition to the Course summary, there could be a tag system or a description indicating which skills in each course are strongly related to the current industry.
For example, maybe for ECE297, clearly list a “Git" tag or a short description like: “Taking this course, you will learn how to command the source control system git, which is the standard tool used in the industry to collaborate within a team...”
This data might only be obtained from the community, preferably from graduates who have been in the industry for a few years and know which skills are actively required and from which courses they acquired them during their undergraduate studies.
Or there could be an integration with the job postings on the PEY portal. Building a relationship between early-year courses and job postings would help students know which skills to focus on when taking a course, and which required skills must be obtained outside the classroom.
