failed to reexec: Permission denied

Hello,
I' ve manually installed on Ubuntu 24.04 the 5.3.1 amd64 binary release and everything works fine but the very first command when I receive the error in the title. It occurs regardless of the command. It can be podman version, podman compose or whatever command.
Starting from the next command everything works fine.
Possibly I am missing something in configuration?

You need to loosen up apparmor policies introduced since 23.10 in Ubuntu. Eventually change owner of binaries to your user instead of root. Or both.

@theseeker58 thanks for creating the issue and sorry for my late response!
I also ran into this and documented the workaround within #116 now.
Apparently Ubuntu 23.04 was security hardened which causes the error. While Ubuntu ships an apparmor profile at /etc/apparmor.d/podman that configures an exception for /usr/bin/podman, it doesn't do so for /usr/local/bin/podman.
The fix is to adjust the apparmor profile so that it also applies to /usr/local/bin/podman as follows:

sudo sed -Ei 's!^profile podman /usr/bin/podman !profile podman /usr/{bin,local/bin}/podman !' /etc/apparmor.d/podman
