I need a hand with automatic day/night theme switching on with KDE on linux

I got advice from mierak here, concerning automatic day/night theme switching: #714

But I'm barely a script kiddie, soooo I used an offline language model to generate this script:

now, what do I do now? I tried setting the theme via either
theme: ["~/.config/rmpc/scripts/dayNightThemeChange"] or
theme: [Some("/home/jimbo/.config/rmpc/scripts/dayNightThemeChange")],
but this fails to work, rpmc saying that it Failed to deserialize config at path: 'theme'. Error: 'Expected String'

Anyone else interested or knowledgeable enough to lend a hand? I feel like I'm only a step or 2 away from the solution, I just don't have the time or know how to get it right.

Your config is wrong, the theme is not an array but a string, there should be no [].

ahh, my bad. I used square brackets, because the docs mentioned on_resize: ["~/.config/rmpc/scripts/onresize"],

but yet, I removed the square brackets, and now rmpc says Failed to parse config file. Error: '1:5: Unexpected char 'u''

relevant part of my config:

if this is a problem with the script and not the config, I'll do some more reading and figure it out

This is also wrong, change it to theme: "/home/jimbo/.config/rmpc/scripts/dayNightThemeChange.ron",, or post the whole config.

Wait, I just noticed you are trying to put a script into a theme, that will not work! KDE/your environment has to trigger that script, not rmpc.

ah, but then do I just leave the theme value blank?

That theme is the one that will be used when rmpc starts. The rmpc remote set theme ... command is a runtime override for that specific rmpc session. It will go back to the configured theme once you quit and start rmpc again.

So you should probably choose one of the two which you want to be your "default".

thanks, the script now runs when my theme switches via another script, seems to be working. Really appreciate the guidance, can't tell you how much I missed using a music client that wasn't ugly, hope your day is going well!
