I was curious as to why Dependabot didn't pick this up. It looks like it's not reading the repositories from pluginManagement, so it's not checking the google() repository for updates. It's also checking JCenter which is not in use in this repo.

It's a reported issue on the Dependabot side, but no activity since March: dependabot/dependabot-core#3286

We may have to move to Renovatebot instead. I'll open an issue to track this.
