On Friday, 3rd October 2025, I am still able to use the conversations in the web GitHub Copilot, but starting from 6th October 2025, all the conversation chat history has disappeared. Can anyone verify this issue? Thank you very much!

I can verify your concerns. GitHub Copilot (at least, web-based version, that I use often for Chat) is loosing history, messages and in general is VERY UNRELIABLE. It's quite frustrating for a BUSINESS subscription a company pays for and certainly NOT what I would expect for a corporate software. It's a great shame for both GitHub and Microsoft.

Yes, I faced the same thing. On Oct 3, my Copilot web chat history was still there and working fine. When I checked again on Oct 6, all past conversations were gone. I didn’t clear anything manually.

Here’s what I tried step by step:

1. Logged out of GitHub and logged back in
2. Tried a different browser
3. Cleared browser cache and cookies
4. Checked on another device

None of these brought the chat history back.
After checking GitHub Community and discussions, it looks like this is not a local/browser issue, but something on GitHub’s side (probably a backend change or retention reset). Once the history disappears, it doesn’t seem recoverable.

Since October 6th?! That's like 4 months ago and they still didn't fixed it? Unbelievable.

This appears to be a synchronization glitch rather than permanent data loss. First, try clearing your browser cache and cookies, or access the page in an Incognito/Private window to rule out local display errors. Ensure you are definitely signed into the correct GitHub account, especially if you switch between personal and organization profiles. If the history is still missing, check the GitHub Status page for any reported Copilot outages; if none are listed, you should open a ticket with GitHub Support directly so they can investigate the backend sync failure.

With me it happened on the same day. In the middle of the chat. It took too long to respond, then after refresh the history was gone. Today. More than twice. The same pattern.

My chat history just disappeared too (Google Chrome browser)! I had important things there. I have a subscription!

WTF! I was two hours into a chat session planning a refactoring project. The page flickered in my browser and then refreshed to this

It was my first time using GH Copilot in 2 years. Oh well, I guess that experiment is over. Back to using Cline.

happened to me multiple times now.. never had this type of issues with chatgpt free version. it's really bothering as I sometimes go back to older chats to find back informations.

I have the same issue, and the usual advice of disabling extentions and such doesn't apply since it looks like a systematic issue across multiple accounts

It happened to me again! I had a saved conversation history from less than a month ago, and it was deleted! My advice is not to use it for anything profound! Use it only for something simple, superficial, and without a plot!

Luckily I've only lost that one conversation and I was able to recreate much of the conclusion by telling Claude about it in as much detail as I could and we reconstructed the idea. That said, there were other elements, code snippets and such that are still lost.
