Is project dead?

I haven't seen any contributions for 7 months. Is project dead ?

I wish I could say no, but we haven't heard anything from the maintainers since January 7th (when a vulnerability was discovered in the project).

I understand they might be busy, but a project like this, with so many weekly downloads, should at least have regular communication regarding vulnerability fixes (at least a message informing users that they are working on it).

If it has been abandoned, what can be done in this case?

This project needs to be maintained. It should be handed off to someone or some committee. Big name companies use this.
