Wake on LAN for SMB (or other)

My NAS is configured to sleep after some amount of inactivity. My device is configured to sleep at night. As a result when the device comes up in the morning the server does not. I could manually sync their schedules...but it sure would be convenient if there were an option to send a magic packet if it fails to connect right away. Just a thought. I may be able to help if there's interest.

It looks like I can add "magic packet" support easily enough.

If I add the feature, can you test it via the Play Store public beta for me as I don't have a server that sleeps?

yeah no problem! (although I'm having other issues at the moment. guessing it's my device (Cozyla) changing something on me) but even with that I can at least verify the magic packet wakes up my server

ok. that was a smb configuration issue related to symlinks. Yes I'd be happy to try it out!

Yes it does work!

Guessing this was just a quick proof of concept...but some feedback anyway:

• The location in settings was unexpected? I guess i figured there would be one per server type. (minor really)
• The input box for MAC doesn't have any validation (the comment on format was helpful though)
• The bigger issue is that it blocks every time it loads. Ideally it would check for a connection, if there isn't one send WOL and check for a connection for say (1-2 minutes) before giving up.
• Finally a nice to have (definitely not required) would be to auto-discover the MAC. Given the IP and an active connection I think you can determine the MAC?

Again happy to help if you want to push your branch and give me some pointers...otherwise great app and awesome response time on this issue!!

It's just the initial version so I thought global might be best for testing. Obviously, one idea is to have WOL support for each 'remote' provider like Samba, WebDAV and Immich.

I can add that, this initial version was just a test.

I'll try and add more advanced logic in the next version. Currently, the server is assumed to be up, and if there is any error with a 'remote' provider, it is skipped.

I looked into this and it should be possible. If the WOL option was moved to each 'remote' provider then I can add an option to get the MAC address based on the server IP.

The initial work is already merged in, but I'll start a new branch with the changes and let you know.

Also, how long does the server take to wake up - what is a good default?

I think 30sec to boot is plausible? Mine takes a bit more than that.

I should have more on this maybe later tonight (GMT) or tomorrow.

The remote/network providers need a bit of re-write when it comes to testing their a) connection and b) server auth - all connection testing so far assumes the host is up and contactable.

One I can test the connection of a media provider separately, I can then check of WOL support, try that and wait, then try and fetch the media.

EDIT: It doesn't seem possible to get a Mac address via IP lookup since Android 10.

Sorry totally missed that you had updated it. Lately the server hasn't been sleeping. I'll test it right now.

It works in that it wakes up the server. But it does not appear to be checking for a connection. Every time it launches it waits for the configured delay time before displaying anything
