Adding '&::placeholder' pseudo-element css selector breaks in rtl

When I add a &::placement style to a MUI TextField I get this error:

TypeError
Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'push')

The expected result is that the TextField's placeholder text should be colored magenta in the above example.

I am also seeing this issue while using stylis versions >= 4.3.0 in BOTH "ltr" and "rtl" direction.

4.2.0 seems to apply the placeholder styles with no page crash/error.
