OS and Software
In general any Linux can be used.
In most cases Kali Linus is recommended because it already comes with many tools useful for pen testing and network analysis both wired and wireless, reinstalled. While you can choose between 32-bit and 64-bit, 32-bit is recommended since it gets tested the most.

If the HackRF One is used, a wide range of tools can be used. One of the best and well maintained tools is GNU Radio. Along with GNU Radio GQRX will be installed. It provides a good "waterfall" frequency display.
Matlab and Simulink offer toolboxes to interface and program the HackRF One.
In order to use Meshtastic CLI and API with any supported Meshtastic device, Meshtastic Python needs to be installed. The integrated Meshtastic device can be either used for Meshtastic or any other LoRa application.
In later versions I'm thinking about supplying a preconfigured, ready-to-go image.
