Notes from our 1/22 meeting:

• Our prior work on CAN and the AMDC:
  • Can transceiver board - see here
  • We tried to do a loop back test - never got it fully working. See here
• @jimhgant and @elsevers have assembled CAN information and the eLev lab's CAN interests on this issue: here @mohamed-dek1 and @Known4225 should read it.
• We want to come up with a plan for what CAN support the AMDC should have. Should we be adding a J1939 module to the AMDC?
• Sponsored project perspective: we need to prepare AMDC as a backup control option to the current control hardware. The main impediment is the lack of CAN on AMDC.
• eLev lab perspective: we want to have CAN support to be able to interface with Yokogawa DL950 and our incoming AVL dyno.
• End of semester goal: @mohamed-dek1 should demonstrate communication with a BorgWarner HVLP-20 motor drive in ME 76. See this comment for details on the drive
• We will use the AMDC-firmware repo and AMDC firmware team project board to track progress and tasks on this goal.
• @mohamed-dek1 and @Known4225 should create a Gantt chart in @mohamed-dek1's Friday slides for this project and then set up the first necessary GitHub issues. Link the issues as sub-issues to this issue.
  • Goal: get loop back test working
  • Goal: create driver layer in AMDC that can send packets over CAN
  • Goal: make recommendation on J1939 and CANopen
  • Goal: create plan for test bench with HVLP-20 motor drive + AMDC in ME76 (wiring diagram, voltages, required power supplies)
  • There needs to be goal(s) on adding documentation to docs.amdc.dev
• We are open to doing a revision on the CAN transceiver board, but doing this requires significant time. Probably best to stick with current hardware.
• Need to figure out voltage interface

I made a new folder in our shared drive that contains a product sheet, a more detailed product manual, and a decoder file (.dbc) for the HVLP-20 motor drive we will use to test AMDC CAN. If/when more information is collected I will place it in this folder.
